Carey is a former high fashion model, who measures at almost 5'10" she was a favorite of American fashion houses like Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren. Her father, a distinguished scientist, who was awarded the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists 1979 Scientist of Year award, is an accomplished scientist. Carey was educated throughout the world due to her father's work. Following her graduation from the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs, she began to model on the side. The idea caught the attention of an agent from Ford Model Agency New York. The year was 1980 when she emigrated to France and briefly lived in Paris as well as Bordeaux and then returned back to New York in order to explore an acting career. Her work was showcased on Vogue and Glamour covers. In between modeling assignments she also studied literature full time during her time at New York University. After graduation, in New York she began to pursue acting. In 1986 she began her career in acting with a minor part as a minor character in "Club Paradise" with Robin Williams. White water rafting, skis as well as rock climbing are some of her most loved activities.
